The average daily cost of incarceration at Monroe County Correctional Facility, throughout 2009, was $43.73 (Report to the Board of Monroe County Prison Inspectors, January 12, 2010). Just keeping one person out of jail for six months saves the County tax-payers $7,871.40, in housing costs alone. The opportunity to obtain and keep a good job, and kive in a safe enviornment enhances the chances of staying out of jail. From July 1 through December 31, 2009, we had a total of 3,074 man/days of participation. This equates to a savings of $134,426.02.
